On September 29th, San Francisco Performances launched its 44th season with a gala at the War Memorial Veterans Building in San Francisco. The event celebrated the wonderful Alexander String Quartet’s 35th anniversary as San Francisco Performances’ Quartet-in-Residence.
Gala chairs were SFP founder and President Emerita Ruth Felt and Henry Klyce. Music Historian Robert Greenberg, longtime partner of the ASQ on the Saturday Morning Series, served as master of ceremonies.
The festivities began with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres on the Green Room loggia, followed by a concert with the Quartet in the Herbst Theatre. Following the concert, guests returned to the Green Room for a delicious dinner and spirited fund-a-need drive.
The evening raised over $156,000, with proceeds benefiting San Francisco Performances’ education programs which bring world-class musicians into Bay Area classrooms and community centers.
