36th Season Gala
On October 16, San Francisco Performances celebrated the opening of its 36th Season with its annual fundraising Gala at the Julia Morgan Ballroom in San Francisco. The festive event―which featured a performance by Brazilian jazz singer and song writer Luciana Souza and pianist Edward Simon―was a great success and raised more than $170,000 to support SF Performances’ award-winning arts education programs.
Hosted by Gala Chairs Natalie Wade and Thomas Beischer, the evening began with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the elegant Daniel Burnham Bar & Lounge. Guests then proceeded into the Ballroom for dinner and a short performance from two talented young jazz musicians from the Oakland School for the Arts, Caleb Sankoh on piano and Ari Carpenter on bass.
A spirited Fund-a-Need drive—introduced by SF Performances Jazz Artist-in-Residence Sean Jones—followed. Guests gave generously and the Fund-a-Need drive brought in over $80,000, the most ever raised.
The evening concluded with a spectacular performance from Ms. Souza and Mr. Simon, who performed selections from Ms. Souza’s newest album Speaking in Tongues.
