Usually about an hour in length, Family Matinees typically feature complete performances with an interactive component—sometimes Q&A with the artists, sometimes hands-on and participatory—designed to give a deeper glimpse behind and inside of what’s on stage. Artists are particularly experienced in how meaningful and inspiring the arts can be to young people, and are able to communicate on their level.

Transforming lives through the power of diversity in the arts, the Catalyst Quartet features award-winning laureates of the Sphinx Organization’s national competitions that showcase America’s top young classical music artists. Composer-performer Regina Carter has been a frequent San Francisco Performances artist who is able to cross musical boundaries and captivate audiences young and old with standard and innovative jazz for violin.

Company Wayne McGregor is cutting edge and high-tech, making it a hit with young audiences and full of surprises for seasoned dance-goers. Kids know that we learn and think with the whole body, and Company Wayne McGregor puts this into practice and makes it art! Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniolo transform the familiar guitar and banjo into fast and fun “super-instruments” capable of playing virtually any kind of music. Show less…
